Police have launched an appeal to the public following two robberies in Salisbury and Tidworth on the 15th of January. At 2.15 am on the 15th of January, a burglary was reported to Police at the Nisa shop in Winterslow, Salisbury.
A window was smashed, Police believe this to be with a sledgehammer. The 27-year-old attempted to gain access to the cigarettes cabinet. The suspects drove off in a dark vehicle, an eye-witness said.
Another burglary was reported later that day, at the Spar shop in Beech Hill, Tidworth. It is also believed by police that the suspects used a sledgehammer to gain access to the building, cigarettes and alcohol were stolen.
Officers later carried out searches of the area for the vehicle, it was found crashed into a tree near the A338 at 2.45am, a sledgehammer and cigarettes were found in the vehicle.
A 21-year-old man was arrested near the scene of suspicion of burglary and was taken to Melksham custody for questions. He was later released under investigation.
